AGM 2025: A Programme Full of Voices, Debate and Inspiration

From Josh Babarinde MP and Martin Jones CBE to Liz Saville-Roberts MP, plus a major session on ending violence against women and girls — AGM 2025 is packed with debate, insight and inspiration.

This year’s AGM (16–18 October, Eastbourne and online) promises to be a great one. Across three days, members will come together to debate motions, hear from influential speakers, and take part in professional sessions designed to tackle some of the biggest issues we face.

Voices you won’t want to miss

We’re delighted to be joined by Josh Babarinde OBE MP. Josh has long been an advocate for justice reform and opportunities for young people. Hearing from him on home turf is set to be a real highlight.

We’ll also welcome Martin Jones CBE, HM Chief Inspector of Probation. Martin leads the independent scrutiny of probation services in England and Wales, and his insights always spark vital debate about the state of probation and what needs to change.

And of course friend of Napo, Liz Saville-Roberts MP, leader of Plaid Cymru in Westminster and Chair of the Justice Unions Parliamentary Group, will bring her trademark passion and political sharpness. Liz has consistently championed probation and family courts staff in Parliament, holding ministers to account and ensuring our issues stay on the political agenda.

Professional spotlight: ending violence against women and girls

This year’s professional session will focus on the next steps in ending Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). With contributions from:

  • Kim Thornden-Edwards, Chief Probation Officer, HMPPS

  • Jacky Tiotto, Chief Executive, Cafcass

  • Professor Kieran McCartan, criminologist and researcher at UWE

  • Nikki Pound, Women’s Policy Lead at the TUC

This session will offer both professional insight and practical discussion, exploring how our services can better protect victims, challenge perpetrators, and create safer communities.

More than motions

Of course, AGM is also about our members setting the direction of the union. Debates on motions will run throughout, and thanks to your recent ballot, the order of business reflects the issues you told us matter most.

There’ll be time to connect socially too, with Friday night’s social in the Winter Garden promising music, conversation, and a much-needed chance to unwind together.

Why you need to be part of it

AGM isn’t just another date in the diary — it’s the union’s biggest event of the year, where your voice has real impact. Whether you’re in Eastbourne or joining online, this is your opportunity to hear directly from leaders in justice, shape Napo’s future, and celebrate the power of collective action.
