Join Us at Napo’s AGM in Newcastle!

AGM is one of the most important events in the calendar of any union or organisation. It is a formal gathering where members come together to review the past year's activities, discuss future plans, and make crucial decisions through voting.

We are excited to announce that this year’s Napo Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at the Newcastle Civic Centre from Thursday 10 October to Saturday 12 October. This event is more than just a meeting; it’s the cornerstone of our union’s democratic processes and an invaluable opportunity for members to engage, influence, and shape the future of Napo.

What is AGM?

AGM is one of the most important events in the calendar of any union or organisation. It is a formal gathering where members come together to review the past year’s activities, discuss future plans, and make crucial decisions through voting. For Napo, the AGM is a chance to reaffirm our commitment to our goals: protecting workers’ rights, ensuring public safety, promoting equality, and maintaining professional standards in probation and family courts.

Why Attend the AGM?

  • Hear from Inspiring Speakers: Look forward to a line-up of excellent speakers who will provide insights on critical issues facing our sector. Details to be revealed soon.
  • Participate in Fringe Meetings: These sessions offer a more informal setting to discuss specific topics in depth, network with colleagues, and develop new ideas and strategies.
  • Vote on Key Motions: Your vote matters. By participating in the AGM, you help shape the policies and initiatives that Napo will focus on in the next year.

What are Motions?

Motions are proposals put forward by members or branches that outline specific actions or positions the union should adopt. These motions cover a wide range of topics, from workplace policies and union strategies to broader social and political issues affecting our members. Each motion is debated and then voted upon during the AGM, allowing members to directly influence Napo’s direction and priorities for the coming year.

Given the recent change in government, it is particularly important for our members to submit motions and attend this AGM. It’s a real moment to stand up and be counted, making sure our collective voice is heard loud and clear in advocating for our members’ interests.

Key Dates to Remember:

  • Wednesday, 7th August: Deadline for submitting motions. This is your chance to propose new ideas and changes.
  • Wednesday, 28th August: Members will be notified of the motions that will be discussed and voted on.
  • Wednesday, 25th September: Deadline for submitting amendments to the motions. This allows for refining and improving proposals before the AGM.

How to Get Involved:

  • Register for the AGM: Visit our AGM page
  • Submit Motions: Detailed instructions on how to submit motions are available on the same page.
  • Connect with your branch: Members can contact their branch to find out if there is any assistance available for registration fees, accommodation, and transport.

The AGM is more than just a tick box exercise; it’s a dynamic and engaging event where your participation can lead to real, impactful change. We look forward to seeing you in Newcastle and working together to make this AGM one of our most
