Calling all Women in Napo!

This year’s Women In Napo fringe meeting at AGM, led by Becky, is to think together about how we survive the workplace, to look after ourselves and our clients.

Becky Shepherd’s report on Women Working With Women – Vicarious Trauma

Becky Shepherd

Becky Shepherd, from London South Bank University and a former probation practitioner (and Napo member), would like to thank all members who participated in the Women Working With Women project on vicarious trauma in female probation practitioners who work with women.  The report into the survey findings on this important topic is now published and available on the Napo website here:  https://www.napo.org.uk/women-napo

This report gives Napo evidence of the prevalence of vicarious trauma within this cohort of staff which can be used to advocate for better support and training from the Employer.

Some extra details on the Women In Napo Fringe at AGM (for those of you who can make it in person – this is not online)

Women in probation and family courts – these jobs take their toll.

This year’s Women In Napo fringe meeting at AGM, led by Becky, is to think together about how we survive the workplace, to look after ourselves and our clients. Again, many thanks are extended to those probation practitioners who participated in the Women Working With Women – vicarious trauma project.  As above, the report is now published on the Napo website here: https://www.napo.org.uk/women-napo

A new phase of research on vicarious trauma will be starting soon with members from the Family Court Section, and Becky will be giving out some information about this at the WiN fringe meeting.  It is difficult to make time to relax in probation and family court work, but members need to look after themselves, so we will also be doing some RELAXING activities.

The vicarious trauma project is continuing and will next look at Family Court Section members.  More information will be coming out at the fringe and afterwards. If anyone has any questions about the report feel free to email Becky also on shepher7@lsbu.ac.uk

Next online WiN meeting – to be confirmed after AGM
Keep an eye out for a message for next WiN meeting and put the Teams’ date in your diary when confirmed and hope to see you there ! This, as always, are informal meetings where women members can raise any issues in a safe and confidential space but to point out if there are concerns/issues Napo needs to take up more urgently for women members especially.
