Napo has been an affiliate to the GFTU (The General Federation of Trade Unions) for some time. This week the GFTU held their bi-annual conference where affiliates submitted a range of motions reflecting specific campaigns linked to their vocation, as well as those highlighting concerns around racism, homophobia and violence against women and how the development of equality strands between unions can enhance our campaigning work. The motions that were debated and the Economic statement that was also supported by Napo can be found below.
Napo played a major role at the conference with contributions from General Secretary Ian Lawrence as well as Napo young member Andrea Kocsondi (West Mercia Branch) who has held one of the equalities seats on the GFTU Executive for the last two years. Ian was also elected to serve as GFTU Vice-President by the conference and looks forward to developing our already productive relationship with newly appointed GFTU General Secretary Gawain Little.
Conference also saw the retirement of Doug Nicholls a great friend to Napo after nearly half a century of involvement on the Trade union movement.
