Napo Opposes Interventions and Programmes Review

Napo attended the first divisional engagement event this week which was organised by senior management to explain the review. The facilitators were left in no doubt by those attending of the dismay amongst staff about these proposals.

Napo attended the first divisional engagement event this week which was organised by senior management to explain the review. The facilitators were left in no doubt by those attending of the dismay amongst staff about these proposals.

Along with the general sense of anxiety and anger, especially from colleagues in the DSOU teams and other Band 4 facilitators who will be most impacted by the proposed changes, there was significant concern at the absence of negotiation with the unions. In addition, many staff saw these proposals as ill-informed and having the potential to directly threaten community safety.

Members raised their concerns that the genesis of these proposals is not based on research, which is fundamental to the professional and evidenced way in which Probation works, and therefore cannot be justified. Napo agrees; and we will be urgently reviewing the situation with senior management and pointing out that our members deserve much more respect and consideration of their role as professional practitioners.

  1. Thanks Nic

Yes acknowledged but the priority at that stage was to make it clear that we had called for a review of the engagement events. You will hopefully have seen a joint statement which confirms that these events have been cancelled pending a further high level review of the whole intervention and programmes proposals.

More news and details of future meetings of our impacted members will follow from Carole Doherty National Vice Chair and Tania Bassett Napo National Official

    Thanks for your feedback
