The Hidden Cost of Working in Probation

Excessive workloads don't stop when the working day ends. This video reveals how probation staff are taking work home, working unpaid overtime and facing growing pressures that affect their health, families and wellbeing. Based on Napo member survey findings, it shows why action on workloads is urgently needed—and why every member should vote in the industrial action ballot.

Work doesn’t end when probation staff leave the office. For thousands of probation professionals across England and Wales, excessive workloads are following them home—into their evenings, weekends, relationships, sleep and health. This film shares the reality behind the statistics. Based on Napo member surveys, it highlights the scale of unpaid overtime, the growing burden of accrued TOIL, and the impact that excessive workloads are having on the people responsible for protecting the public.

If you’re a Napo member, don’t forget to take part in the industrial action ballot.

Ballot opens: 10 July to 10 August

A strong turnout gives your negotiators the strongest possible mandate to continue pressing for meaningful action on workloads.
