Your past is not your future: Lisa’s story of second chances

From accountant to clinical animal behaviour student, Lisa explains how a Longford Trust scholarship and mentorship helped her rebuild confidence, launch a business and see a future beyond her conviction.

When Lisa entered prison, she knew one thing with certainty: she could not return to her former career as an accountant.

What she did not yet know was that this moment would force her to confront a much deeper question: what did she actually want to do with her life?

“I realised I needed to build on something I genuinely enjoyed,” she explains. In this episode of the Napo Podcast, Lisa talks candidly about the help and support she received from the NHS, probation and the Longford Trust.

Her message to others leaving prison or on probation is clear: pursue education in something you genuinely care about and don’t underestimate the value of support.

“The Longford Trust helped me rebuild my confidence not just as a student, but as a woman,” she reflects. “My past hasn’t defined my future.”

Because rehabilitation works best when people are given the tools, belief and opportunity to succeed.

The Longford Trust Scholarship is currently open. For more information or to apply, visit their website.
